Intro/Info - Hi, I'm just some guy trying to stay healthy and lose weight using my Omni One VR device. I have hope pairing addictive games with physical activity will produce positive results. I stream on Twitch https://www.twitch.tv/sweatformvr - and Kick - https://kick.com/sweatformvr
The server I am on is ChromieCraft https://chromiecraft.com/en/
Stream purpose - The primary reason I am streaming is to create an extra level of accountability to my weight loss/fitness goals. Staying active in the game comes first, so I'll probably be unresponsive to live chat. However, if you want to contact me here's my dedicated
e-mail address - sweatformvr@gmail.com ---- or try to ping me in discord - https://discord.gg/ypzpVmAVwf
My gaming goal is hoping Major Online Gaming Companies will consider adopting its own VR mods for retail versions of their games or enable fans to do it themselves.
When do you stream? Not sure. Hopefully everyday, but I can never predict when. Consistency is not something I am good at. Also, I can only stream as long as I can physically move, so the streams themselves will unlikely be longer than an hour or so.
WoW Specific Goal - This is a Hardcore Character (1 life/no deaths). I've already completed a softcore character. I'm gonna try to get as far as I can, but consistent workouts are more important than character progression.
How are you playing World of Warcraft in VR? - The mod which allows this only works on Azeroth Core 3.3.5a. I wish I could get this for retail, however, until then I'll have to make do with what's available.
Where can I get this mod? Join the "Flat2VR Modding" Discord server. You can find info there.
What's your system set up / requirements? Overkill for WoW VR 9800x3d, Intel Arc Battlemage B580, 32gig ram, Virtual Desktop. The mod's creator however believes an old i7-9700 - NVIDIA GTX 1060 / 6+ gig of ram though should be able to get the job done.
What is your experience with WoW in VR in general? More than immersion, VR has your brain conceptualizing things you'd never think of on a flatscreen. You think certain spaces are limiting and small until you are standing there in person. The world is so much bigger than you think it is. Spells suddenly become more incredible when you stand in the middle of their destructive display. If you like roller coasters nothing beats flying the flight paths in 1st person mode, standing in air as you zoom across the world. All to often I find myself stopping because I notice new things or new details I had always overlooked.
What is your experience of playing WoW in VR on an Omni One? I hate walking/running for exercise. A lot. Yet I get immersed enough in WoW VR that I keep moving anyway. This resulted in an interesting problem, my brain has the expectation of 4-5 hours gaming sessions and my body starts running out of steam after only 1-2h. Still, that is exactly what I hoped for, games which would find a way to draw you back in and keep playing even if you had to sweat to do it.
Downsides to WoW in VR on a Omni One - WoW isn't naturally a VR game, so there's at lot of standing around. The mod isn't a perfectly finished plug and play, some can be worked around, others cannot. For example, I miss not having all the keys on my keyboard, or being able to target things as quickly as I could with a mouse.
You still have to have the goal at least get into the machine to play and stick with it. There are only two types of movement in-game walk and run, there's no step by step pacing so it's a big clunky at times. Also, sometimes the interface gets lost the geometry. It also takes a little bit of time to properly config yourself and the system each time you start it up.
How can I help?
Bring positive attention to what I am doing so Devs consider enabling/allowing VR in their retail games.
